FAQ
Building a new home or cabin does not need to be a daunting endeavor. We hope to demystify the process with these answers to some FAQs, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any other specific questions about getting an HMH Cabin just for you!
How long will it take to build this cabin?
Generally, it takes 2-4 months to finalize siting, any custom design details, and site-specific permitting. Then it’s 8-10 months for construction, depending on lead times for some materials and location of your site. So you’ll be enjoying your cabin in about a year!
Is there a 2-bedroom option available?
Yes! The 2-bedroom/2-bathroom and studio options have been designed and will be available to build very soon. We’ll work with you to determine the best option to fit your needs; some clients have decided to build combinations of cabin sizes so that they have extra room for friends and family and/or to increase rental options. Inquire for these floor plans if you're interested.
What's the cost?
The average one-bedroom cabin costs 400,000, and the 2-bedroom is 480,000, not including soft costs such as fees and permits. Variables like power and water, material selections, and other site-specific challenges can affect the cost, so please contact us for a quote based on your location.
Where can I build this?
This is designed to meet building codes anywhere in the USA, so please contact us for details.
What can I customize?
Some windows and door configurations are easy to modify within the constraints of the existing permits. We can customize the orientation and location on your site, as well as flip the plan if that works better. We have a number of options for exterior finishes, and the interior fixtures and finishes are an opportunity to really infuse your home with your personality.
Why is this better than pre-fab?
Generally, this site-built format offers some design options that would not be possible with pre-fab, plus it's almost always less expensive. Because we build many of these cabins, we also take advantage of many of the efficiencies and reduced waste that pre-fab companies offer.
Do I need a contractor?
HMH is a licensed general contractor in California so we handle all of the permitting and construction. If you’d like to build this in another state or country, HMH will work with your local contractor to get the cabin built.
Can I finance this through Hundred Mile House?
HMH does not finance projects, but we’ll equip you with all the information you’ll need to apply for a construction loan from a lender and can provide information for lenders that we've worked with.
